Badrinath Temple opening date 2026

Badrinath is open only in the warm half of the year. The doors, known as the kapat, opened on 23 April 2026. The opening ceremony started at 06:15 IST on that day. This is not the daily darshan start, so do not use it to plan a normal morning.

The committee sets new dates every year. Plan a trip in 2027 only once the new opening date is announced. If you want to book a package, look at our Badrinath tours and Char Dham packages only once your dates fit the season.

Badrinath temple closing date and the winter rituals

The closing is a sequence of ceremonies, not a single hour.

DateWhat happens
12 November 2026The Panch Puja begins
16 November 2026The doors close at 21:37 IST
17 November 2026The images of Uddhav and Kuber and Shankara's gaddi leave the temple

The closing date and time come from the committee. Plan your last visit well before it, because a weather pause or a change of date can shift the schedule. For travelers who want the full season, the days between late spring and early autumn leave the most room. See the weather page for the monsoon months.

Daily timings and puja windows

Year dates and daily hours are different things.

The Tourist Care portal announces the daily temple and aarti times for the season. Check the current timetable before you go. Each service has its own window, and start times can differ slightly, so arrive early.

Arrive 15 to 30 minutes before your puja, with the receipt and your ID. Prices and the booking rules are on the darshan and puja page.

Using the dates for your trip

Four practical points.

Choose days inside the season

The registration asks for your travel dates and the days you visit each dham, so settle the dates before you register. The letter is then tied to your plan.

Registration steps โ†’

Do not plan the last day

The final days before a closing are busy with ceremonies, and a weather pause can remove a day. Aim to reach Badrinath earlier in the week of your choice.

Add travel days

The road from Rishikesh takes 10 to 12 hours, so an arrival day and a spare day belong in the plan.

Check the weather pattern

The season runs from spring to November and crosses the monsoon. Look at the month you prefer before you fix the days.

Winter worship and related seasons

The shrine is closed, but worship goes on elsewhere.

Where worship continues

In winter, Uddhav and Kuber are worshipped at Yogdhyan Badri in Pandukeshwar. The winter worship takes place in Pandukeshwar, not in Joshimath.

Valley of Flowers

The regular season runs from 1 June to 31 October. It is an adventure on its own, with multi-day trekking.

Valley of Flowers โ†’

Hemkund Sahib

The 2026 season opened in late May, and ended on 10 October. It closes earlier than Badrinath.

Skiing in Auli

The ski season at Auli runs from January to March, and it is a separate trip from a Badrinath darshan.

The 2026 season at a glance

Several Himalaya seasons overlap, but they are not the same.

Place2026 season
Badrinath Temple23 April to 16 November
Valley of Flowers1 June to 31 October (regular season)
Hemkund SahibLate May to 10 October
Skiing in AuliJanuary to March

The blooms of the Valley of Flowers and the ski season do not fall into the same months, and neither matches the temple season fully. For most pilgrims, the temple dates decide the trip, and any trek is added around them.
